STRENGTH AND BEHAVIOUR ASSESSMENT OF AXIALLY LOADED CONCRETE FILLED STEEL TUBULAR STUB COLUMNS

As a result of the excellent performance under different loading conditions, concrete-filled steel tubular (CFST) stub columns are extensively used recently. The current study employs 3D finite element analysis to assess response when subjected axial compression. effect some parameters concrete and confining tube where numerically investigated. was considered as an elastic perfectly plastic material, whereas damage plasticity behaviour adopted for material. Analysis results suggested that ultimate strength increases with increase its grade. On other hand, increasing magnitudes grade caused reduction in ductility composite columns. Also, yields stress, wall thickness contributes columns’ strength. However, they reduce action column’s It also noted circular CFST showed is larger than square Thus, use high concrete, especially seismically active areas, should be carefully considered.
